FIAT Torpedo 2800 Special
Wandering around the Fiera Milano in Rho, we came across this vintage marvel.
I must confess that the first thing that came to mind was the unmistakable and ironic voice of Giorgio Gaber and his song “Torpedo Blu”.
However, I wanted to learn more about this marvel, and below you will find a brief description of this iconic car, which you can learn more about on the “Ente Fiera di Milano” website or on Wikipedia.

The 1948 Fiat 2800 Torpedo Special from the Fondazione Fiera Milano returns every year to “Milano AutoClassica” (the classic vehicle show held at Fieramilano, Rho).
This historic vehicle, of which only a few remain in the world, is on display in all its enchanting beauty.
The Fiat 2800 was manufactured by Fiat from 1938 to 1944.
Five vehicles were built in the 6-seat torpedo version, registered by the Ministry of the Interior and became the state automobile for both the fascist power elite and, after the war, for Italy’s earliest Presidents of the Republic.
It was also the car used by King Vittorio Emanuele III as he fled from Rome toward Pescara.
But the vehicle owned by Fondazione Fiera Milano is a truly special edition, in the postwar period Fiat, which still had several of the 2800 chassis in-house, decided to build three torpedoes with more modern livery, entrusting them to the Ellena body shop in Turin, which completely changed their look.
Thus, in 1948 these three unique vehicles, designed to transport heads of state, were officially registered.
One of these was then acquired by Fiera Milano and used to chauffeur heads of state, government ministers and many celebrities to the historic Fiera Campionaria trade shows.
The presence of this automobile at the show is also emblematic of the journey Fondazione Fiera Milano undertook to completely restore the vehicle and give back to classic car enthusiasts a vehicle that is even more beautiful, elegant and reliable.
